CO₂ emissions from passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Europe (monthly monitor)
Each month, IMT, together with ICCT and ECCO, publishes benchmark data on CO₂ emissions from passenger cars and light commercial vehicles registered in the European Union (+ Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein). These data provide regular, up-to-date monitoring of vehicle registrations in Europe in relation to the targets set by the EU CO₂ emissions standards for cars and light commercial vehicles.
They provide, month after month:
- the volume and share of each powertrain type (EV, PHEV, HEV, MHEV, ICE) in new vehicle registrations, by country and by manufacturer pool;
- the regulatory CO₂ emissions associated with these registrations, by country, by manufacturer group and by manufacturer pool, and compared with the specific targets assigned to each pool;
- the evolution of regulatory CO₂ emissions across the different powertrain types.
What’s new in 2026: the January 2026 barometer marks the start of a new reporting year. It has been revised to incorporate new indicators and improve the readability of the results.
